In Mexico, the millenary Mayan ballgame and modern Golf have something in common; do you know what it is? The beautiful Mexican Caribbean. The Puerto Cancun golf club in the middle of downtown and the Hotel Zone was designed by Tom Weiskopf, these brand new 18 holes golf course stretches out over 185 acres of land, offering great views of Puerto Cancun’s marina and the Caribbean beach.
For those of you who stay at any of the first hotels of the Hotel Zone, Cancun golf club Pok Ta Pok (which is the Mayan for ball game) is your perfect choice, designed in 1976, this project by Robert Trent Jones JR was the first golf course in Cancun; this 18 holes championship golf course was built between the Nichupte lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, that besides offering a beautiful landmark, take you back in time when playing among ancient Mayan vestiges that among the other hazards, will give even the most skilled player an exciting golfing experience.
Along the second half of Cancun’s Hotel Zone are located other golf courses, some of them part of the hotel itself, like the Grand Oasis Cancun 9 holes par 27 (par 3) golf course, designed by Thomas Lehman; the golfing club of Melia Cancun hotel by Tom Weiskopf, which is a 18 holes par 53 (par 3) featuring a putting green. Also in the Cancun Hotel Zone lays the beautiful Hilton Cancun Golf & Spa Resort, designed by Aoki Western Golf, 18 holes par 72 spread along 150 acres, with outstanding views of the lagoon, tropical flora and ancient Mayan ruins that will make you live a remarkable golfing encounter.
Other newer golf courses not in the Hotel Zone but in some prestigious residential zones of Cancun are the Playa Mujeres golf club, designed by Greg Norman -18 holes par 72- and the amazing La Roca country club TPC Cancun, whose designers involved in this projects are Tom Fazio & Nick Price; the TPC Cancun will gather 36 holes spread in 2 magnificent 18 holes golf courses.
Not so far from Cancun the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort will offer its visitors, golfers or not, the chance to play in a convenient and well located 27 holes golf facility near the Hotel Zone and the airport of Cancun. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the sand traps, rainforest, lake and the gorgeous Caribbean Sea will astound even the most dared golfer.
The already world famous Riviera Maya has been earning more and more prestige, because not only has the best in accommodations, tours and aquatic activities, but also because the great Golf Course designers have made their presence all over these gorgeous beach resort. Just to give you a clear example, the first and only golf course to host the PGA Tour in Mexico is at the Riviera Maya, El Camaleon Mayakoba was designed by the Golf legend Greg Norman, where each year since 2007, 132 pro golfers gather in these majestic 18 holes par 72 golf course seeking for their share of the 3.6 million dollar prize.
It doesn’t matter which is your handicap, The Riviera Maya with its many golf courses, will delight you, your family, your friends and companions, with the best experience in golf. El Manglar at the Mayan Resorts golf Riviera Maya, with a 18 holes par 54 Nicklaus design, The Iberostar Playa Paraiso 18 holes par 72 golf club designed by P.B. Dye, close to well-known Playa del Carmen the Playacar golf & spa club designed by Robert Von Hagge with its 18 holes par 72 golf facility, the Puerto Aventuras golf club and the Riviera Cancun, both designed also by Jack Nicklaus and the course soon to be open at Bahia Principe near Tulum the archaeological site, by Robert Trent Jones Jr. will feature 27 Championship holes and a 9 hole, par 3 course, as well as a golf academy.
